Team Bikers’ Days Endurance : On the right road…

« We did our job ». Even if the result of the 6 Hours of Spa didn’t really follow, Grégory Fastré was very satisfied with the evolution of the Bikers’Days Team during the 6 Hours of Spa.

« I took a great start and my lap times were good all the way through my runs » he continues. « We just didn’t have any luck. Wim Van den Broeck, my co-rider for the day, fell in his first run after just a few kilometres.

That’s racing and it can happen to everyone. Look at Stéphane Mertens, he lost his podium at only three laps from the arrival …

Despite our bad luck, we did have some luck. First of all because no one got physically hurt, secondly because despite the crash, no vital element of our Yamaha was touched. So Wim was able to bring the bike back to the box and the mechanics could fix it. It was an opportunity to realise that at that level we still miss some automatisms, we need to be faster. But that fastness only comes with the habit. Unfortunately we don’t have the same possibilities as a factory team where the mechanics can work all year long at the bikes and know every bolt by heart.

Compared to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the machine has made a lot of progress. Especially engine-wise. The temperature, which was our main problem, never exceeded 80 to 90°. Compared to the other Yamaha’s, our engine was equally powerful and fast. I think we’ll do better in the Superstock category at the next Bol d’Or with Denis Bouan and Raymond Schouten.

Now we still have to focus on the chassis, figure out a way to make it more efficient. »
